Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply and monitor underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems, including coordinating and controlling responses to incidents and participating in incident and procedure audits, debriefs and reviews.It applies to those working in supervisory roles. They generally perform a broad range of operational activities in their area of responsibility and are responsible for monitoring a safe work environment.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

1. Plan and prepare to apply underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply underground coal mine emergency and preparedness and response system documentation and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures according to site requirements

2. Apply underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response plan
  • 2.1 Obtain, clarify, confirm and communicate incident information
  • 2.2 Identify, assess and communicate type and scope of the incident
  • 2.3 Apply and monitor emergency response, evacuation plans and action plans/procedures according to emergency preparedness and response plan
  • 2.4 Apply procedures for monitoring, recording and reporting on emergency incident according to emergency preparedness and response plan
  • 2.5 Apply procedures for collation, analysis and validation of emergency preparedness and response data according to emergency preparedness and response plan
  • 2.6 Contribute to management of the incident within scope of own role
  • 2.7 Identify, locate, obtain and apply emergency equipment to the incident according to emergency preparedness and response plan
  • 2.8 Isolate potential sources of danger and put in place warning signs/signals/barriers according to site requirements
  • 2.9 Coordinate and control response to incident within scope of own role
  • 2.10 Communicate incident information according to emergency preparedness and response plan
  • 2.11 Participate in audit, debrief and review requirements within scope of role
  • 2.12 Process records and reports according to emergency preparedness and response plan and site requirements

  • 3.1 Schedule and carry out inspections, equipment repair and maintenance activities according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
