Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to service and repair bores and windmills. This includes activities such as replacing parts, checking equipment for wear and tear, determining lime deposits, and stripping, dismantling or reassembling bores and windmills.The unit applies to individuals who service and repair bores and windmills under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work.These activities carry risk of falls due to working at heights, and injury due to working with moving parts and machinery.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Establish bore history and workplace repair requirements
- 1.1 Review workplace records and confirm bore history
- 1.2 Confirm workplace bore and windmill service and repair requirements with supervisor
- 1.3 Obtain specialist instructions and assistance as required
2. Prepare to carry out service and repairs
- 2.1 Identify hazards and risks, and implement safe working practices to manage risks
- 2.2 Select, check and maintain tools, equipment and materials required to perform bore and windmill service and repair
- 2.3 Identify faulty or unsafe tools and equipment, and separate for repair or replacement
- 2.4 Select, fit, use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) applicable to the task
- 2.5 Dismantle and strip windmill and bore installations according to manufacturer specifications and workplace requirements
3. Carry out service and repairs
- 3.1 Service and repair bores, windmills, motors and pumps according to manufacturer specifications and workplace requirements
- 3.2 Report complex faults and repairs and refer for specialist advice and remedial action
- 3.3 Retrieve lost equipment
4. Complete service and repair activities
- 4.1 Reassemble and test bore and windmill components for full function and flow according to manufacturer specifications and workplace requirements
- 4.2 Clean and maintain work site
- 4.3 Clean, maintain and store tools, equipment and PPE
- 4.4 Dispose of or recycle waste from service and repair activities according to environmental practices
- 4.5 Complete service and repair records according to workplace procedures
- 4.6 Report work activities, and faulty and unserviceable tools and equipment to supervisor
