Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to operate pressure curing systems to cure repairs made to heavy off-the-road tyres. It applies to tyres defined by AS 4457.2-2008 Earth-moving machinery - Off-the-road wheels, rims and tyres - Maintenance and repair - Tyres (or its replacement) or similar tyres.This unit applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team.The unit principally refers to the practical, theoretical and technical knowledge and well-developed skills required in situations that require some discretion and judgement. No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for job
- 1.1 Select required curing equipment from job specifications
- 1.2 Move tyre into suitable position for curing
- 1.3 Secure tyre ready for curing
- 1.4 Determine cure conditions required from injury dimensions, rubber compounds and equipment selected
- 1.5 Select curing equipment components to suit repairs to be cured
- 1.6 Check and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
2. Set up pressure curing system
- 2.1 Correctly place and secure packing required for job
- 2.2 Position curing system components and secure ready for curing process
- 2.3 Apply pressure appropriate to system being used
- 2.4 Check curing system is ready for curing process according to equipment specifications
3. Cure repair to procedures
- 3.1 Set temperature required for curing according to equipment and job specifications
- 3.2 Monitor heat and pressure over whole curing cycle and make any required adjustments to ensure successful curing
4. Complete repair
- 4.1 Check heat and pressure cure cycle has completed according to equipment specifications
- 4.2 Remove curing system according to workplace procedures
- 4.3 Remove packing and any other materials used according to workplace procedures
- 4.4 Inspect repair to ensure it meets standard required
- 4.5 Accurately complete required paperwork
5. Anticipate and solve process control variances
- 5.1 Recognise existing or potential process control variances and their causes
- 5.2 Determine, prioritise and implement remedial and preventative actions based on identified issues and causes
- 5.3 Monitor process control variances and corrective actions taken until resolved
- 5.4 Accurately maintain records and logbooks
