This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to select and configure hardware peripherals using specifications and technical guidelines suited to the particular organisational context.The unit applies to individuals who may work in technical support roles and may have some responsibility to solve technical incompatibility issues under supervision, using a wide range of information and communications technology (ICT) skills and knowledge.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to connect hardware peripherals
- 1.1 Confirm work brief relating to work tasks, hardware and peripheral quality standards, work health and safety (WHS) standards, and organisational policies and procedures
- 1.2 Research and select hardware peripheral components according to work brief
- 1.3 Select and source configuration components according to organisational policies and procedures
- 1.4 Confirm that client support expectations are covered by vendor warranty and support services
2. Obtain hardware peripherals
- 2.1 Source hardware peripherals and check for serviceability according to organisational policies and procedures
- 2.2 Update hardware inventory register
- 2.3 Confirm that delivered hardware peripherals match packing list and resolve any discrepancies
- 2.4 Store hardware peripherals according to organisational policies and procedures
3. Connect hardware peripherals
- 3.1 Create and confirm configuration schedule with required personnel
- 3.2 Remove expired components without disrupting architecture integrity and according to technical guidelines, vendor specifications and WHS standards
- 3.3 Configure and install new hardware peripherals according to organisational policies and procedures
- 3.4 Configure device and confirm hardware peripheral functionality according to vender specifications
- 3.5 Test hardware peripherals and report any issues to required personnel
