Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to implement policing initiatives, including stakeholder liaison and basic project management.This unit applies to those working as police liaison officers, operating within a policing environment. The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to. Those undertaking this unit may work within multi-agency contexts and would work autonomously or under supervision with responsibility for their own functions and outputs. They would undertake defined tasks within established parameters and would develop solutions in predictable contexts. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Identifya policing initiative
  • 1.1 Identify project options for a policing initiative based on identified community needs
  • 1.2 Develop a project based on options for problem-oriented initiatives
  • 1.3 Consult with stakeholders to develop tailored responses as part of the project
  • 1.4 Obtain organisational approvals to conduct partnership initiatives as part of the project
2 Plan the policing initiative
  • 2.1 Determine timeframes, roles and responsibilities required to facilitate the policing initiative
  • 2.2 Identify financial resources required for implementation of the policing initiative
  • 2.3 Obtain agreement on deliverables and timeframes through liaison with stakeholders
  • 2.4 Develop and document the project plan
3 Undertake the policing initiative
  • 3.1 Liaise with stakeholders to obtain support and encourage engagement with the policing initiative
  • 3.2 Conduct activities outlined in project plan to deliver the policing initiative
  • 3.3 Monitor progress of project in consultation with stakeholders
  • 3.4 Report variations to activities outlined in project plan and changing circumstances to supervisor
  • 3.5 Adjust project plans in accordance with changing circumstances
4 Review the policing initiative
  • 4.1 Seek feedback from stakeholders to evaluate project outcomes
  • 4.2 Review project outcomes to determine effectiveness of initiative
  • 4.3 Identify ongoing requirements to maintain the policing initiative
  • 4.4 Report project outcomes to stakeholders to complete feedback process
