This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to conduct batch disposal of waste water to sewers. Waste water may be the outcome of treatment at a waste processing facility, treatment plant or industry source. The unit covers preparing for waste water disposal by obtaining relevant transport and disposal approvals, identifying and managing hazards and risks, locking and sealing inlets, outlets and hatches to the waste water storage facility, and sampling and checking waste water to ensure it complies with disposal requirements. The unit also covers disposing of waste water by managing outlets in consultation with relevant authorities, and monitoring and recording the volume of waste water discharged. The unit requires off valve and lock-up systems to be shut at the completion of disposal activities and maintaining drainage systems to prevent contamination, blockages, obstructions and leaks.The unit supports those who work under limited supervision in a waste management team.No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.
