Description
This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to conduct long line road marking operations in Civil Construction.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to conduct long line road marking operations
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply long line road marking operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions before proceeding
  • 1.3 Identify and implement traffic management signage requirements
  • 1.4 Select and check for faults plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks
  • 1.5 Identify, address and report hazards, risks and environmental issues
  • 1.6 Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Conduct pre-operational checks
  • 2.1 Check/inflate tyres
  • 2.2 Carry out pre-start, start-up, park up, shutdown and secure equipment procedures
  • 2.3 Check road marking plant controls and functions, including brakes and manoeuvrability for serviceability, and report faults
3. Operate long line road marking plant
  • 3.1 Drive and operate equipment
  • 3.2 Manage engine power to ensure efficiency of plant movements and to minimise damage to the engine and gears
  • 3.3 Position vehicle correctly prior to marking run to enable uninterrupted flow of road marking material
  • 3.4 Maintain control and alignment on marking run
  • 3.5 Apply road marking material to the surface providing an even coverage
4. Carry out operator maintenance
  • 4.1 Prepare machine for maintenance
  • 4.2 Conduct inspection and fault finding
  • 4.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks
  • 4.4 Process written maintenance records
5. Clean up
  • 5.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials
  • 5.2 Return surplus fuel and lubricants to storage
  • 5.3 Clean, check, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment
  • 5.4 Carry out housekeeping activities
