Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to assemble and install equipment and ancillaries/accessories.Work is undertaken using new external and internal locations and sites and foundations, footings, beds and framework are completed prior to installation practices. It does not cover installation requiring substantial modification to the existing site or where components are replaced by the same or similar type.Where production-related assembly work is undertaken unit MEM03002 Perform precision assembly should also be selected.Where installation requires substantial modification to the existing site, and is being replaced by the same or similar type unit MEM10006 Install machine/plant should also be selected.Where load shifting equipment is required to be used unit MEM11010 Operate mobile load shifting equipment should also be selected.Where positions are determined, alignments are undertaken and testing within manufacturer specifications is required unit MEM25012 Install and test operations of marine auxiliary systems should also be selected.This unit should not be selected if unit MEM03002 Perform precision assembly has already been selected.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 2

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
- 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
2 Inspect and prepare the installation site
- 2.1 Check site for location, dimension and levels using appropriate measuring equipment
- 2.2 Report non-compliance with specification to appropriate authority
- 2.3 Undertake alteration and correction with approval of appropriate authority
- 2.4 Prepare all surfaces, materials and components for use
3 Install machinery/ plant and equipment
- 3.1 Carry out work in accordance with site procedures and legislative requirements
- 3.2 Prepare machine/equipment components for correct sequential installation
- 3.3 Install machinery/plant or equipment in accordance with manufacturer and site specifications
- 3.4 Undertake routine modification/alterations to operating procedures, where required
- 3.5 Level, align, connect machine/equipment or couple, where required (excluding electrical connections)
- 3.6 Clean site and clear all debris and leave in safe state
