Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to cut, shape and apply finishing techniques to annealed coloured and textured glass of manufactured thickness.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
- 1.4 Identify job requirements, including materials, types of cuts, shapes and edges, processes and quantities required, from specifications, drawings, designs, job sheets or work instructions
2 Plan and prepare for work
- 2.1 Select and check tools, equipment and thin glass materials prior to use to ensure they are appropriate for the work and are in a safe and serviceable condition
- 2.2 Determine cutting list and identify quality standards and procedures in accordance with workplace requirements and industry standards
- 2.3 Select glass to be cut and processed to industry standard tolerances using information from the work order, including type of glass, thickness, colour, texture and dimensions
- 2.4 Identify and prepare equipment and settings required to perform the work
- 2.5 Plan the work sequence in a logical order to suit the job
- 2.6 Select suitable cutting, shaping and lubrication methods
- 2.7 Select glass processing table and clear surface and work area of debris, dust , obstructions and potential hazards with cullet bins located close to work area
- 2.8 Check glass for imperfections and damage prior to handling
- 2.9 Locate glass to be processed in the work area using correct manual handling techniques and procedures
3 Process glass
- 3.1 Measure glass within specified tolerances so as to minimise waste according to enterprise standards
- 3.2 Operate and monitor tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures to ensure correct quality and output
- 3.3 Process glass to required standard in accordance with job order, work instructions and procedures, including the performance of routine lubrication and adjustments of tools/equipment
- 3.4 Identify and report problems occurred during work operations to appropriate personnel in accordance with workplace procedures
- 3.5 Follow authorised changes in working procedures and/or requirements
- 3.6 Inspect completed product for quality of work and items found defective are repaired, reprocessed or discarded in accordance with workplace procedures
4 Complete work
- 4.1 Label and store processed glass ensuring there are no projections in accordance with procedures
- 4.2 Remove scraps and off-cuts for disposal and/or recycling as required
- 4.3 Remove and store tools, equipment and unused materials in accordance with SOPs
- 4.4 Clean work area and dispose of rubbish as appropriate
- 4.5 Complete workplace documentation in accordance with SOPs
