Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to complete underwater rigging work.It includes securing and moving submerged loads by employing blocks and tackle, chains, slings and cordage. It also includes establishing secure lift points, setting rigging equipment between load and lifting platform, and controlling the conduct of the lift.This unit applies to persons working as Defence divers.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies, dive plan and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Persons undertaking this unit work independently and perform specific tasks in a range of contexts that could be unpredictable.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for underwater rigging operation
- 1.1 Identify load metrics and worksite data to meet task requirements
- 1.2 Develop work plan consistent with dive plan in accordance with organisational procedures and task requirements
- 1.3 Select, inspect and prepare rigging gear in accordance with safe lifting weight limits and work plan
- 1.4 Secure rigging gear for safe transport to and from dive site
- 1.5 Identify obstructions and other lift hazards to determine risks and to manage risk control measures in accordance with dive plan
2 Lift and handle submerged objects using mechanical advantage
- 2.1 Determine a safe work area and confirm location of other divers and nearby surface vessels and/or structures prior to commencing lift in accordance with work plan
- 2.2 Identify lift points to secure object to lifting device in accordance with safe lifting weight limits
- 2.3 Ensure lifting devices are anchored off raised objects in accordance with operational and safety procedures
- 2.4 Operate lifting devices within accepted load tolerances
3 Complete underwater rigging operations
- 3.1 Minimise environmental impact arising from work task and recover waste products
- 3.2 Complete disassembly and post-dive serviceability checks in accordance with manufacturer specifications, report defects, as required, return and restow equipment in accordance with organisational requirements
- 3.3 Complete required documentation and records in accordance with organisational procedures.
