This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to plan and distribute woodchips to storage facilities for the production of pulp.The unit applies to production support operators who distribute woodchips in a pulp or paper manufacturing facility.Licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit in some states & territories at the time of publication and may differ according to jurisdiction

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan woodchip distribution
- 1.1. Check work order and equipment for woodchip distribution, in accordance with productivity requirements and workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements.
- 1.2. Estimate future storage size requirement from production and distribution schedules.
- 1.3. Plan filling or distribution patterns to enable maximum woodchip storage.
- 1.4. Identify requirements for specific sequences in filling deposit areas.
- 1.5. Plan and confirm direction and extent for distribution and contraction, with relevant personnel.
- 1.6. Estimate chip distribution requirements considering the reach and limitations of the chip slinging and chip moving equipment.
2. Start up transfer equipment and chip distributor
- 2.1. Complete pre-startup checks for conveyors, chip distributor, and wheeled or tracked vehicles
- 2.2. Remove isolations.
- 2.3. Check deposit areas to ensure clearance for startup.
- 2.4. Inform other operators of impending startup.
- 2.5. Start conveyors and chip spreading processes and confirm correct transfer of woodchips.
3. Distribute woodchips to storage facility
- 3.1. Prepare equipment for distribution of woodchips.
- 3.2. Inspect storage to identify hazards within the vehicle operational area.
- 3.3. Communicate notice of impending operation to relevant personnel.
- 3.4. Maneuver woodchip distribution to enable filling or distribution over required area.
- 3.5. Distribute woodchips to storage facilities.
