Description
This unit of competency is part of the Aeroskills Diploma and Advanced Diploma training pathways. It covers the management of aircraft and aeronautical product configuration in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Manage aircraft/aeronautical product configuration
- 1.1. Aircraft and aeronautical product maintenance configuration is maintained in accordance with applicable maintenance documentation
- 1.2. Aircraft configuration is changed and maintained to meet established role requirements in accordance with airworthiness regulations and organisational policy and procedures
- 1.3. Modifications to aircraft and aeronautical product are carried out in accordance with airworthiness regulations and organisational policy and procedures
- 1.4. Aeronautical product is authenticated and checked for serviceability in accordance with airworthiness regulations and organisational policy and procedures
- 1.5. Locally manufactured components are produced to authorised specifications and technical drawings
- 1.6. Aircraft weight and balance is maintained and validated in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational policy and procedures
- 1.7. Revised weight and balance data is provided for revision of aircraft loading systems
2. Manage maintenance records and documentation
- 2.1. Maintenance reports and documentation are compiled and despatched in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational policy and procedures
- 2.2. Maintenance records and associated documentation are maintained in accordance with organisational policy and procedures
- 2.3. Deficiencies in documentation are remedied in accordance with organisational policy and procedures

The maintenance configuration is defined by the original drawings, standards and component fit of the aircraft or aeronautical product, and as subsequently varied by approved modifications or approved component/material substitution

A person who demonstrates competency in this unit must be able to manage aircraft configuration and aircraft/aeronautical product technical configuration in accordance with relevant regulations and organisational policy and procedures.
Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit
Assessors must be satisfied that the candidate can competently and consistently perform all elements of the unit as specified by the criteria, including required knowledge, and be capable of applying the competency in new and different situations and contexts.
Assessors should gather a range of evidence that is valid, sufficient, current and authentic. Evidence can be gathered through a variety of ways, including direct observation, supervisor's reports, project work, samples and questioning. Questioning techniques should not require language, literacy and numeracy skills beyond those required in this unit of competency.
Context of and specific resources for assessment
This unit may be assessed on the job, off the job or a combination of both on and off the job. Where assessment occurs off the job, that is, the candidate is not in productive work, then an appropriate simulation must be used where the range of conditions reflects realistic workplace situations.The candidate must have access to all tools, equipment, materials and documentation required and must be permitted to refer to any relevant workplace procedures, product and manufacturing specifications, codes, standards, manuals and reference materials. The assessment environment should not disadvantage the candidate.
