Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct conveyor operations in coal and metalliferous mining, including conducting basic planning, preparation and maintenance activities to support operations.It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.No licensing, legislation, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for conveyor operations
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to conduct conveyor operations
  • 1.3 Plan job and optimise production requirements within scope of own role
  • 1.4 Identify, address and report environmental issues and ground conditions according to site requirements
  • 1.5 Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks according to site requirements
  • 1.6 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
2. Operate conveyor
  • 2.1 Carry out prestart and start-up procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements and confirm required safety devices are operational
  • 2.2 Communicate work activities with others within scope of own role
  • 2.3 Monitor conveyor performance using appropriate indicators and confirm safe operation of plant and equipment
  • 2.4 Identify and remove/manage contaminants according to site requirements
  • 2.5 Complete work plan according to job requirements and manufacturer specifications
  • 2.6 Carry out shutdown and secure equipment procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
3. Carry out operator maintenance
  • 3.1 Prepare machine for maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 3.2 Conduct inspections and fault finding procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 3.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 3.4 Return machine to service according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 3.5 Complete maintenance records according to site requirements and manufacturer specifications as required
4. Carry out housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Clean and maintain condition of work area and equipment according to site requirements
  • 4.2 Manage and/or report hazards according to site requirements
  • 4.3 Complete records and reports according to site requirements
