This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use basic video art techniques to produce creative work. It involves preparing resources for video art, using and testing different techniques to produce video art and reviewing plans to further develop own skills.The unit applies to those who have limited experience in working with video and apply fundamental skills to experiment and develop creative works using video technologies. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare video art resources
  • 1.1 Identify and obtain tools, equipment and materials used to create video art
  • 1.2 Prepare tools, equipment and materials according to organisational policies, procedures and safety requirements
  • 1.3 Set up work space according to safety requirements
2. Use and test video art techniques
  • 2.1 View different video art in different styles and discuss with others how effects are achieved
  • 2.2 Match potential techniques for producing video art to own ideas with the assistance of required personnel
  • 2.3 Nominate and test video techniques and determine the effects they achieve
  • 2.4 Produce finished video art in file formats that meet organisational policies and procedures using selected techniques safely
  • 2.5 Clean work space and equipment and return to original condition
3. Make plans to develop skills
  • 3.1 Seek and use feedback from required personnel on own video artwork and identify areas for improvement
  • 3.2 Review different opportunities to build own skills and select suitable options
