Description
This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to prepare a report for remedial scoping requirements as a result of the diagnosis of cause of water and moisture ingress in construction. The unit applies to Class 1 and 10 Buildings, and Class 2 to 9 Buildings.The unit covers planning and preparing to develop a scope of works, developing the scope and specifications, and documenting the scope of works and specifications. The unit is suitable for builders, building supervisors, building surveyors, building designers, architects, waterproofing design specialists, waterproofing supervisors, and consultants, engineers or other design specialists. Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply to this unit. Relevant work health and safety (WHS) state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm jurisdictional requirements.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare.
  • 1.1 Review design specifications and water ingress report, including drawings, building and structures.
  • 1.2 Confirm stakeholder’s design brief and expectations, including timelines, finishes, systems and warranty.
  • 1.3 Confirm relevant regulatory requirements.
  • 1.4 Liaise with other specialist consultants, including engineers, building surveyors and local councils.
2. Develop scope and specifications.
  • 2.1 Determine extent of the scope of works, including site conditions, demolition, occupant use, safety, specifications and quality assurance.
  • 2.2 Develop waterproofing design in line with design brief.
  • 2.3 Consult with product manufacturers and research appropriate systems in line with design brief.
  • 2.4 Confirm effectiveness of waterproofing design for compliance and suitability with site conditions in accordance with National Construction Code (NCC) performance requirements, Australian Standards and manufacturers’ requirements.
3. Document scope of works and specifications.
  • 3.1 Write scope of works to include establishment of site, roles and responsibilities, safety, stages, statutory requirements and site hand-over.
  • 3.2 Document the system specifications in accordance with manufacturers’ requirements.
  • 3.3 Document hold points and other quality assurance requirements.
  • 3.4 Communicate scope of works and specifications to stakeholders.
