Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to output complex images. It requires the individual to set up an output device, and adjust and manipulate complex images or files that meet the job specifications and are free of errors.It applies to individuals working in the printing and graphic arts industries who work under some supervision using practical skills and equipment to output complex images.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Set up and maintain output device
  • 1.1 Devices are set up to manufacturer’s specifications and enterprise standards
  • 1.2 Outputmedium is calibrated by conducting exposure tests using appropriate software and hardware
  • 1.3 Calibration is evaluated and necessary adjustments made to output device
2 Adjust and manipulate images/files
  • 2.1 Electronic files are evaluated as to suitability for output
  • 2.2 Appropriate output resolution is set
  • 2.3 Appropriate screen angle and dot type are set according to job specifications
  • 2.4 Appropriate colour profiles are applied where necessary
  • 2.5 Availability of high resolution images is assessed for Open Prepress Interface (OPI) process
  • 2.6 Appropriate fonts availability is checked
  • 2.7 All support files are included with the job
3 Output image
  • 3.1 File is prepared for output to imaging device
  • 3.2 Job queuing is managed to ensure efficient production
  • 3.3 Images are outputted to appropriate medium
  • 3.4 Output is processed according to job specifications
4 Evaluate result
  • 4.1 Output is checked for correct dot size, screen angles and film density
  • 4.2 Image elements are checked according to original job specifications
  • 4.3 Technical problems are solved and appropriate corrections are made
  • 4.4 Job is prepared for next stage of production
