Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to blend stockpile materials in coal mining, metalliferous mining and extractive industries. It involves monitoring the blending process and confirming that the correct grades of minerals are selected.The unit applies to those working in operational or supervisory roles. They generally perform a broad range of operational activities in their area of responsibility and are responsible for monitoring a safe work environment.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to blend stockpile materials
- 1.1 Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
- 1.2 Access, interpret and apply blending of stockpile material documentation and confirm the work activity is compliant
- 1.3 Complete start up checks and prepare work area according to work requirements
- 1.4 Identify potential hazards and environmental issues, implement control measures within scope of own role and escalate where required
- 1.5 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site and work requirements
- 1.6 Select appropriate dust suppression and extraction methods for work requirements
- 1.7 Identify and locate correct material grade according to stockpile plan
- 1.8 Communicate work requirements to others
- 1.9 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
2. Blend materials
- 2.1 Select quantity and grade of material, and use blending techniques according to job requirements
- 2.2 Check required blend of minerals is achieved
- 2.3 Monitor surrounding site and access roads, and check for contamination
- 2.4 Monitor blending process and confirm correct grades of minerals are selected
- 2.5 Identify any contaminants and follow site contaminant management procedures
- 2.6 Document process used to remedy contamination in records and reports according to site requirements
3. Carry out post-operational procedures for blending stockpile materials
- 3.1 Inspect equipment, and determine and report any equipment faults according to site requirements
- 3.2 Carry out operational maintenance, servicing, lubricating and housekeeping tasks according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.3 Complete records and reports according to site requirements
