This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to remove and fit wheel assemblies in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. 1. Plan for removal and fitting of wheel assemblies
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply remove and fit wheel documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Set up maintenance schedules based on tyre usage, wear or condition
  • 1.6 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Prepare for removal and fitting of wheel assemblies
  • 2.1 Identify wheel and/or rim type, and mounting system
  • 2.2 Prepare, clean and inspect wheel assemblies
  • 2.3 Select tools and equipment and check for fit for purpose
3. Assess and control risk in wheel assembly removal
  • 3.1 Identify and control any hazardous conditions of the work environment before proceeding, noting points where safety checks are required

  • 5.2 Clean and visually inspect wheel assembly for damage, wear, corrosion foreign material, cracks, and compatibility of components
  • 5.3 Clean and visually inspect mounting surfaces and fasteners for damage, wear, corrosion, foreign material and cracks
  • 5.4 Check specifications and compare to conditions found
  • 5.5 Complete reports and action findings
  • 5.6 Discard unusable fasteners
6. Fit wheel assembly
  • 6.1 Access and interpret wheel assembly fitting information
