Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to perform odour and infiltration investigations.It includes investigating and reporting odours and infiltration problems in the wastewater collection and transfer systems. It also includes resolving wastewater system problems, operating technical equipment and preparing technical reports.This unit applies to those working as field and operational staff, with a specific responsibility for ensuring odour and infiltration problems are identified and remedied. Those undertaking this unit would work under appropriate supervision, while performing routine tasks in a familiar context, and ensuring minimum damage to the environment.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for infiltration detection
  • 1.1 Determine worksite boundaries and infiltration detection requirements from plans, specifications and instructions
  • 1.2 Conduct risk assessment for environmental and safety factors including personal and protective equipment to ensure it is safe to commence work
  • 1.3 Select and check infiltration equipment according to workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Determine work requirements for the maintenance and repair of assets from work drawings, plans, specifications and instructions
  • 1.5 Identify, notify and communicate with customers according to workplace procedures
2 Investigate odour and infiltration complaints
  • 2.1 Investigate root cause of odour and determine appropriate remedial action
  • 2.2 Control odour through repair or replacement by taking appropriate remedial action according to workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Update customer by advising of odour resolution methods utilised
3 Operate infiltration detection equipment
  • 3.1 Operate infiltration equipment according to manufacturer instructions
  • 3.2 Determine the location of infiltration and mark according to testing outcomes and workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Maintain and repair structural damage to assets
  • 3.4 Restore worksite according to environmental and workplace procedures
4 Review, report and record work
  • 4.1 Tag and report faulty equipment and tools and advise appropriate personnel
  • 4.2 Store equipment, tools and materials according to manufacturer and workplace procedures
  • 4.3 Complete and process workplace records according to workplace procedures
