Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) applications, approvals and permissions. It includes compiling the scope of missions for applications; collating resources and information to develop permissions and approvals; developing and submitting applications; applying for variation to a Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC) in addition to communicating approvals, permissions and parameters to remote pilots and relevant crew.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Compile scope of mission for application
  • 1.1 Mission objective is defined
  • 1.2 Mission area of operations are identified
  • 1.3 Aviation legislation, aeronautical information and general operating rules applicable to the mission are identified
  • 1.4 Mission parameters are identified
  • 1.5 Appropriate aircraft and supporting equipment for the mission are identified and selected
  • 1.6 Stakeholders are identified and consulted
2 Collate resources and informationto develop permissions and approvals
  • 2.1 Remote pilot competency and capability mission needs are met and ensured
  • 2.2 Class of airspace is identified
  • 2.3 Additional approvals and permissions required are identified
  • 2.4 Required approval/permission for application are identified
3 Develop and submit application
  • 3.1 Risk assessment is conducted and documented
  • 3.2 Approval/permission supporting documents are developed
  • 3.3 Application is submitted and any deficiencies addressed
4 Apply for variation to ReOC
  • 4.1 The scope of the proposed operation change is identified
  • 4.2 The ReOC variation process is reviewed to determine Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) application requirements
  • 4.3 Supporting evidence is gathered and application completed and submitted
5 Communicate approvals, permissions and parameters
  • 5.1 Remote pilots/crew are informed of approval and parameters
  • 5.2 Approval and ReOC/compliance declaration are updated and acknowledged by remote pilots/crew
  • 5.3 Documentation is stored in accordance with organisational procedures
  • 5.4 Application for variation to ReOC and updated operations and procedural manuals are submitted
