Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to analyse the fit of a garment or toile on the individual body, make necessary adjustments and alter the pattern.This unit applies to individuals who use discretion and judgement in planning and selecting patternmaking processes to achieve outcomes.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Assess body characteristics
  • 1.1 Prepare tools and equipment for altering patterns
  • 1.2 Assess body characteristics to identify individual and unique features that may create fit problems
  • 1.3 Record individual body measurements, characteristics and potential fit issues
2. Fit garment or toile on individual
  • 2.1 Critique garment or toile on the individual body and assess comfort and fit
  • 2.2 Consult with individual on necessary adjustments to garment or toile for a better fit garment
  • 2.3 Develop work schedule with individual for future and final fittings
3. Make pattern alterations
  • 3.1 Record details of required alterations and transfer garment or toile alterations to the pattern
  • 3.2 Finalise pattern with alterations and check it is accurate and complete and complies with design specifications
  • 3.3 Complete pattern specification sheet, attach to pattern for storage and file appropriately
