Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to conduct chlorine dosing of water at the point of supply as a member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).It includes preparing, conducting and monitoring chlorine dosing and performance at the point of supply to ensure chlorine disinfection residue levels meet the minimum standard for Australian drinking water guidelines (ADWG).This unit applies to personnel working in ADF preventive medicine.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Persons undertaking this unit work under supervision and perform specific tasks in familiar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare and conduct chlorine dosing
  • 1.1 Use, handle and store chlorine in accordance with safety data sheet and organisational procedures
  • 1.2 Establish chlorine residue level in accordance with operational field water testing procedures
  • 1.3 Determine chlorine demand by comparing chlorine residue level with ADWG and chlorine concentration
  • 1.4 Select, fit and use appropriate personal protective equipment
  • 1.5 Conduct chlorine dosing at the point of water supply, as required in accordance with ADWG and organisational procedures
  • 1.6 Monitor chlorine dosing to achieve desired chlorine residue level
  • 1.7 Identify dosing faults and carry out corrective actions in accordance with operational procedures
2 Monitor chlorine dosing performance
  • 2.1 Collect and test dosing samples to confirm chlorine level and water quality in accordance with organisational field water testing procedures
  • 2.2 Record and report test results in accordance with operational procedures
  • 2.3 Report observations outside defined parameters for further action
