This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to supervise rigid pavement construction in civil construction, including preparing team members to construct rigid pavements and overseeing and reporting on task execution.It applies to those working in supervisory roles. They generally perform a broad range of operational activities in their area of responsibility and are responsible for monitoring a safe work environment.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. 1. Plan and prepare to supervise rigid pavement construction
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to supervise rigid pavement construction and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
  • 1.5 Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage and barrier requirements
  • 1.6 Identify, locate and supply all plant, tools and equipment required to carry out tasks and check for faults
  • 1.7 Identify, address and report on ground conditions according to site requirements
  • 1.8 Confirm job plan is available and meets job requirements
2. Prepare team members to execute tasks
  • 2.1 Confirm required resources are available to meet job requirements
  • 2.2 Communicate and clarify instructions with team members and other involved personnel according to job requirements
  • 2.3 Set out tasks required to complete work activity according to job requirements
3. Oversee execution of tasks
  • 3.1 Monitor rigid pavement construction task performance and confirm outcomes are achieved according to job requirements
  • 3.2 Initiate adjustments to work practices and job plans as required to meet job requirements
  • 3.3 Monitor movements and hazards and identify and communicate changes to work environment
4. Oversee housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Check and confirm work area is cleared and materials are disposed of, reused, recycled or stored according to site requirements
  • 4.2 Check and confirm plant, equipment and tool maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
5. Report on execution of tasks
  • 5.1 Complete and submit reports according to site requirements
  • 5.2 Recommend required changes to confirm task execution meets job requirements
