This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to Shutdown dredge for operator maintenance in Civil construction, Metalliferous and Coal mining and Extractive.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.No licensing, legislation or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for Shutdown dredge and operator maintenance
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply service and maintenance documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activities
- 1.5 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- 1.6 Raise and safely secure ladder above water
- 1.7 Conduct retreat away from working face to safe location
- 1.8 Flush out plant
- 1.9 Adjust spuds and/or cable lengths to ensure dredge remains level on pond
2. Move boat line
- 2.1 Disconnect main power supply to dredge and plant
- 2.2 Move float line to new position ensuring enough slack is available for move
3. Check ladder
- 3.1 Confirm ladder is above water and safely secured
- 3.2 Check ladder at scheduled times
- 3.3 Inspect swing sheave action to assess ladder swing performance
- 3.4 Inspect cutter components and flush flow
- 3.5 Communicate and coordinate activities with others throughout the work activity
4. Conduct operational maintenance
- 4.1 Visually inspect dredge to identify faults
- 4.2 Conduct routine operational servicing to ensure peak performance
- 4.3 Repair or refer faults
5. Conduct housekeeping activities
- 5.1 Clean and store equipment and attachments
- 5.2 Complete records and documentation
