Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research and create illustrations that will visually communicate garments on the human figure in a variety of poses and silhouettes. It includes the use of stylised drawing and rendering techniques.This unit applies to individuals working in design-related roles in the apparel and textiles industry.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for illustration work
  • 1.1 Determine illustration requirements from design concept
  • 1.2 Set up and prepare workspace, drawing tools and equipment in accordance with work health and safety requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and select reference source appropriate to illustration requirements
  • 1.4 Analyse use of figure details, compositional balance and perspective for effect in fashion illustration
  • 1.5 Select illustration techniques and media that are appropriate for communication of fabric and texture
2. Produce illustrations
  • 2.1 Select required proportion, scale and stylisation to meet work requirements
  • 2.2 Use clean and stylised lines to present figures
  • 2.3 Select and illustrate silhouettes and poses of clothed figures to meet work requirements
  • 2.4 Inspect illustrations against quality criteria and make required adjustments
