This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to assemble copper foil components using a range of fixing and joining components.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
  • 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, designs, job sheets or work instructions
2 Plan and prepare for work
  • 2.1 Carry out service on selected tools and equipment, including identifying/rectifying or reporting any faults prior to commencement
  • 2.2 Identify and obtain materials appropriate to the work application ensuring they are prepared, safely handled and located ready for use
  • 2.3 Identify and apply environmental workplace considerations and measures to reduce noise, dust and obstacles
  • 2.4 Plan assembly sequence
  • 2.5 Select fixing and joining devices in accordance with types of materials to be joined and work instructions
  • 2.6 Select and check jigs for suitability of purpose
3 Assemble components
  • 3.1 Lay out and assemble components using jigs and appropriate fastenings
  • 3.2 Use hand and power tools as required
  • 3.3 Check assembled work for compliance with specifications
  • 3.4 Prepare, assemble and fit components in accordance with specifications
  • 3.5 Repair or tag work which does not meet quality specifications for further processing or recycling/disposal
  • 3.6 Organise and store finished products in holding area
4 Check work area and maintain equipment
  • 4.1 Tag and report faulty and/or defective equipment in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 4.2 Remove waste and scrap material for disposal and/or recycling as required
  • 4.3 Clean, check and maintain tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and SOPs
  • 4.4 Maintain work area in accordance with SOPs
