Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare mould surfaces, apply mould release systems and mask-up mould for production. This unit applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team.The unit principally refers to the care and preparation of mould surfaces, which is critical to the production process.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare mould surfaces
  • 1.1 Prepare mould surfaces in readiness for use
  • 1.2 Perform temporary repairs of minor mould surface defects to enable use
  • 1.3 Clean up equipment and work areas according to workplace procedures when surface preparation is completed
2. Apply mould release system
  • 2.1 Select correct system for job according to system specifications for application
  • 2.2 Apply system to mould surfaces according to manufacturer specifications
  • 2.3 Perform tape-test of surface release system with selected tapes to ensure compatibility
3. Apply mask to mould
  • 3.1 Select suitable masking tape from tape test results
  • 3.2 Apply masking tape and other necessary materials to ensure mould readiness for production
