Description
This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to process movement of containers and cargo in Metalliferous mining.This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory or technical specialist roles.Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for movement of containers and cargo
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply container and cargo load handling documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Communicate and coordinate activities with others throughout the work activity
2. Check stacking/discharge list at commencement of shift
  • 2.1 Check yard stacking/discharge lists against container/cargo documentation and operational order or work
  • 2.2 Continually update stacking discharge lists with the correct location of containers and cargo
3. Assess and plan container/cargo consolidation
  • 3.1 Assess yard plans and plan consolidation of container/cargo
  • 3.2 Prepare consolidation plans and ensure efficient use of available yard space and operation
  • 3.3 Obtain final yard positions from consolidation plans and record in writing
4. Allocate and accommodate movement between stack positions
  • 4.1 Allocate stack positions according to the nature of the container/cargo and to facilitate yard operations
  • 4.2 Reassign stack positions and accommodate additional cargo
5. Identify and check containers/cargo
  • 5.1 Identify containers/cargo at yard entry and prior to stacking, check for damage to container
  • 5.2 Confirm identification numbers and marks on container/cargo and shipping documentation
  • 5.3 Follow stacking plans and facilitate efficient movement within the yard
6. Check and complete documentation
  • 6.1 Check documentation ensuring it meets container/cargo requirements
  • 6.2 Perform completion procedures
7. Issue gate pass and check clearances
  • 7.1 Issue gate pass to carrier when all documentation requirements have been completed
  • 7.2 Check documentation ensuring that all necessary signatures are on the prepared delivery sheets
