This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform live musical pieces, as a soloist for audiences.The unit applies to those who perform as solo instrumentalists or vocalists. They may perform in any musical genre. They apply technical, musicianship and well-developed stagecraft skills to engage audiences.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to perform music
  • 1.1 Confirm that music is fully rehearsed to required performance standard
  • 1.2 Confirm reliability of instrument or voice and other equipment required for performance
  • 1.3 Tune instrument or voice where required
  • 1.4 Undertake warm-up routine for performance in line with work health and safety (WHS) principles
  • 1.5 Use relaxation techniques to overcome performance anxiety as required
2. Execute solo elements of performance
  • 2.1 Apply required techniques and knowledge to realise performance style that enhances performance outcomes
  • 2.2 Respond to musical and stage or studio direction as required
  • 2.3 Listen critically to own and others’ performance, and adjust own performance as required
3. Evaluate performance
  • 3.1 Assess technical and artistic development against previous work
  • 3.2 Identify weaknesses and errors in own performance
  • 3.3 Assess whether feedback received from others is constructive
  • 3.4 Incorporate constructive feedback to future work as required
  • 3.5 Plan strategies for refining solo performance and technical skills based on outcome of evaluations
