Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake an assessment of the arts and health requirements of a wide variety of participants.The unit applies to those who are responsible for promoting the incorporation of creative arts into health care regimes. Individuals are expected to apply initiative and judgement in assessing individual participant requirements, as well as the sustainability of arts and health practices in a variety of contexts. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Identify arts and health requirements of participants
  • 1.1 Obtain and record participant’s applicable health history using professional protocols and according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 1.2 Seek and record additional health-related information, with consent from required personnel, from participant’s family and/or carer(s), community members and referrals as required
  • 1.3 Consult required allied health professionals and available documentation in relation to participant health
  • 1.4 Document required participant health-related information according to organisational policies and procedures
2. Undertake assessment process of participant arts and health requirements
  • 2.1 Explain assessment methods and procedures to participant and/or significant others and gain informed consent to undertake assessment
  • 2.2 Check understanding of information with participant and/or significant others according to organisational procedures
  • 2.3 Undertake assessment of participant and record outcomes according to organisational procedures and legislative requirements
  • 2.4 Summarise and record assessment findings according to participant needs and organisational procedures
3. Conclude assessment process of arts and health requirements
  • 3.1 Provide participant and/or significant others with information relating to findings of assessment and suitable arts and health program opportunities related to the healthcare setting as required
  • 3.2 Distinguish participant interest in specific art form and goals relating to arts and health
  • 3.3 Support participant in identifying suitable arts and health program opportunities that suit participant interests and goals
  • 3.4 Document and refer participant and/or significant others according to organisational policies and procedures
