Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the skin and hair to cosmetic tattooing treatments.It requires ability to use credible sources to research information on skin anatomy and physiology and apply this to cosmetic tattooing in order to determine type of treatment, identify adverse effects and contraindications, and select appropriate post-treatment service and advice. This unit applies to cosmetic tattooists who work in salons or clinics where cosmetic tattoos are provided on face or body.The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Integrate information about skin and skin structures into cosmetic tattooing.

1.1. Identify and access credible sources of information on anatomy and physiology of the skin.
1.2. Obtain information on the anatomy and physiology of skin and skin structure.
1.3. Obtain information on functions and role of skin.
1.4 Obtain information on physiological basis of skin colour and integrate into cosmetic tattooing treatments.
1.5. Obtain information about growth, development, ageing and healing of human skin, and integrate into aftercare plan.

2. Apply information about skin conditions and contraindications to planning cosmetic tattooing.

2.1 Obtain information about different skin disorders and conditions.
2.2. Access information about contraindications and precautions which may restrict cosmetic tattooing treatment or require referral to a medical professional.
2.3. Obtain information about possible adverse reactions to cosmetic tattoo treatment and products, and appropriate remedial action.
2.4. Access information about the effect that lifestyle factors have on skin.
2.5. Use information to assess appropriateness of treatment options and determine contraindications.

3. Apply knowledge of skin to determine cosmetic tattooing treatments, care and aftercare.

3.1. Access and evaluate information about skin and skin structures, and how it relates to cosmetic tattooing treatments.
3.2. Incorporate and integrate knowledge of skin anatomy and physiology into cosmetic tattooing treatments.
3.3. Apply knowledge of skin anatomy and physiology as it relates to provision ofaftercare service and advice.
3.4. Provide advice to clients on lifestyle effects on skin and benefits of lifestyle changes in relation to cosmetic tattooing.
3.5. Use relevant information to enhance understanding and improve performance of own area of work.

4. Update and maintain knowledge of skin anatomy and physiology.

4.1. Identify and use opportunities to update and expand knowledge of skin and anatomy and physiology.
4.2. Share updated information about skin, anatomy and physiology with clients and colleagues as required.
