Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to manage aviation security screening equipment in compliance with relevant transport security regulatory requirements.It includes preparing for security screening testing, conducting the test and reporting on the test.This unit addresses transport security technical skill requirements (physical, mental and task-management abilities) related to transport security duties of aviation, maritime and air cargo security personnel, and contributes to safe and effective performance in operational transport security environments.Operations are conducted as part of transport security across a variety of operational aviation, maritime and air cargo contexts within the Australian industry.Work is performed independently or under limited supervision as a single operator or within a team environment.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements are applicable to this unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for security screening testing
  • 1.1 Identified screening equipment unserviceability is reported and recorded in accordance with maintenance recording requirements
  • 1.2 Correct screening equipment is selected for testing according to work requirements and site operational procedures
  • 1.3 Screening equipment is turned on and functioning according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.4 Test pieces are collected in accordance with work requirements
  • 1.5 Record keeping test logs are prepared in accordance with work requirements
  • 1.6 Other resources needed for testing are selected as required
2 Conduct testing
  • 2.1 Equipment testing instructions are referred to in accordance with procedures and manufacturer's testing instructions
  • 2.2 Equipment is in correct mode for testing
  • 2.3 Screening equipment safety risks are identified and controlled during set-up and testing in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.4 Required screening equipment tests are carried out in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.5 Equipment is tested and operated in accordance with manufacturer’s testing instructions and SOPs
  • 2.6 Other equipment required for a re-check station is identified, selected and used according to work requirements
3 Report on testing
  • 3.1 Equipment test logs are completed in accordance with work requirements and procedures
  • 3.2 Faults are reported in accordance with SOPs
  • 3.3 Testing sequence is re-commenced following fault rectification in accordance with SOPs
  • 3.4 Unserviceable equipment is taken out of service and marked accordingly
