Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply safe work practices according to the organisation’s work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures, within the context of a small work team.This unit applies to individuals working in a marina who have a supporting role in monitoring and maintaining workplace safety.This unit applies to individuals who provide assistance under supervision in the operational management of the marina.Licensing/Regulatory InformationNo licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Identify WHS/OHS policies and procedures
- 1.1 WHS/OHS workplace policies and procedures are obtained, interpreted and confirmed with relevant personnel, as necessary
- 1.2 Scope of own WHS/OHS responsibilities and duties are identified, and accountability processes outlined
- 1.3 Records are accurately completed and maintained according to workplace policies and procedures
2 Assist with risk control procedures
- 2.1 Hazards are identified, risk and control measures are implemented according to supervisor instructions and workplace procedures
- 2.2 Inadequacies in existing risk control measures are identified in conjunction with the supervisor and reported according to workplace policy and procedures
3 Follow safe work practices
- 3.1 Resources and equipment required for emergency operations are identified, selected and made ready according to workplace procedures and/or supervisor instructions
- 3.2 Personal protective equipment (PPE) is identified, used and stored according to workplace procedures
- 3.3 PPE is maintained in good working condition, faulty equipment replaced, and faults are reported as required according to workplace policies, procedures and supervisor instructions
- 3.4 Safety checks on all plant, tools, equipment and machinery are undertaken before operation (as required)
- 3.5 Hazardous materials and substances are identified and handled according to safety data sheets (SDS), workplace procedures and supervisor instructions
- 3.6 Safety signs and/or symbols are identified and followed according to workplace policies, procedures and/or supervisor instructions
- 3.7 Safe manual handling techniques are used according to workplace policies and procedures
- 3.8 Safety drills, demonstrations and training are participated in according to workplace policies and procedures
