  • 1.1 Develop the database objectives and identify the expected outcomes to be achieved
  • 1.2 Document the database problem
2. Gather information
  • 2.1 Analyse the database in order to identify the business rules, entities and relationships
  • 2.2 Identify the existing and proposed business models
  • 2.3 Identify any possible Big Data applications
3. Determine the database functionality
  • 3.1 Document the existing database and the environment
  • 3.2 Confirm database functionality with the client
4. Identify scalability and functionality
  • 4.1 Identify the reserve, and long-term capacity, of the database
  • 4.2 Identify the implications for the system’s architecture, data models, data structures, hardware and software
  • 4.3 Identify the requirements for scalability
  • 4.4 Compare the functionality and scalability features of the database
  • 4.5 Determine and document any gap between the features
5. Prepare the database functionality and scalability report
  • 5.1 Document the functionality and scalability of the database
  • 5.2 Submit the report to the client for review
