Description
This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to design a plantation or monoculture. The unit also applies to an area that is to be used for multiple uses, such as farm forestry. The unit applies to job roles including Arboriculture Supervisor, Farm Forestry Supervisor, Forestry Supervisor, Forestry Operations Supervisor, Harvesting Supervisor, Harvesting Team Leader, Propagation and Stand Health Supervisor and Tree Farm Supervisor.No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for plantation design
  • 1.1 Assess site and identify site environmental protection measures.
  • 1.2 Review and analyse relevant plans to assess impacts on proposed plantation.
  • 1.3 Consult with stakeholders and obtain input into the design for the site.
  • 1.4 Review organisational maps, plans and strategies and how they relate to plantation requirements.
  • 1.5 Develop measurable performance indicators, specifications and targets for the plantation.
2. Design components of plantation
  • 2.1 Arrange surveys and determine species tolerances for the plantation site.
  • 2.2 Develop plan for site preparation.
  • 2.3 Develop design components and obtain approvals.
  • 2.4 Communicate design plan and performance indicators to appropriate personnel.
3. Review plantation design
  • 3.1 Assess plantation data and documentation against plans and adjacent plantations
  • 3.2 Prepare recommendations and design improvements.
  • 3.3 Record and report on plantation design processes.
