Description
This unit describes the required skills and knowledge to meet project management responsibilities within particular community health programs either in relation to a particular task, or within the context of broad management responsibilities.This unit applies to senior Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers overseeing clinical aspects of the delivery of primary health care services and/or managing the overall delivery of primary health care services and programs to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and communities. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan a community health project
  • 1.1 Consult key community stakeholders to determine community needs in planning the project
  • 1.2 Develop project proposals/submissions in response to community consultation
  • 1.3 Include consultation with key community stakeholders in project planning processes
  • 1.4 Ensure project plans are in line with community, organisation and legislative requirements
2. Prepare action plan
  • 2.1 Ensure project plan identifies required actions and resources
  • 2.2 Document plan and discuss with other workers
  • 2.3 Identify project risks and assess likelihood and impacts
3. Implement and evaluate project
  • 3.1 Follow project plan and review in operation to address identified community needs
  • 3.2 Ensure community is kept informed of progress on the project
  • 3.3 Discuss project outcomes with supervisors and the community
  • 3.4 Reflect on project recommendations with the supervisor and community
  • 3.5 Document project outcomes
  • 3.6 Evaluate project outcomes and document results
