State Implementation and Classification
Description
This course will provide the learner with practical skills and knowledge used in the Fabrication (Heavy and Light), Mechanical (Fitter, Metal Machinist/ Fitter and Metal Machinist, Plant Mechanic and Refrigeration Air Conditioning, Marine Craft Construction and Electrical sectors of the industry. Learners will be able to practice the skills ad knowledge learnt through a structured work placement program and project based delivery outlined in the course structure. Successful completion of the course will give the learner an opportunity to gain an apprenticeship in the relevant trade within the industry sector. AQF levels 1, 2 and 3 units of competence have been used to develop the course so that maximum articulation can occur into a Certificate III Qualification in the stated trade sectors of the Metals and Engineering industry.
The specialisation selected will determine the trade outcome through the Pre-apprentice or School Apprentice Link.

8.
METALS AND ENGINEERING PROJECT
Delivery Strategy
The Pre apprentice and SAL programs are designed for holistic delivery and assessment. The project based units will ensure the delivery strategies incorporate the mandatory units and the elective units. The following will apply:
- Metals and Engineering Project 1 (incorporating mandatory units)
- Metals and Engineering Project 2 (incorporating mandatory and specialisation units)
- Metals and Engineering Project 3 (Holistic assessed final project incorporating mandatory and specialisation units and employability skills within a simulated workplace).
The Work Placement units will require the RTO to:
- Ensure the workplace has been inspected and has appropriate OH&S procedures in place and a range of suitable resources
- Ensure evidence of competence is gathered by the host employer and the learner that is related to the units they have undertaken in the RTO
- a minimum of one visit to the workplace to mentor the learner and liaise with the supervisor

9.
METALS AND ENGINEERING SCHOOL APPRENTICE LINK (Phase 1 Electives).
Select all units in Group 1 and contextualise across the two of the three trade specialisations of Plant and Fabrication or Mechanical and Fabrication then selecting two of the related project units (90 hours) and Metals and Engineering Work Placement 1 and 2. Fabrication covers Fabrication or Marine Construction specialisations.
