State Implementation and Classification
Description
To give learners the skills and knowledge required for entry level employment as tour guides and/or cultural instructors working in schools.
At the successful completion of the course learners will:
- know how to conduct guided tours on Aboriginal themes and provide
key lessons for Aboriginal Studies programs offered in schools
- gain an understanding of the tourism industry
- increase employment opportunities for working as an Aboriginal tour
guide with tour operators who specialise in Aboriginal tours
- develop a deeper and broader understanding of Aboriginal history
and culture, including a basic proficiency in an Aboriginal language
- be motivated to enter more advanced certificate level courses in
tourism.

VET Info Notes
1. On completion of the course, learners are required to have a current
Class A driver’s licence to be
eligible for the Certificate II award. Learners who do not have a
current driver’s licence on enrolment
are required to gain a driver’s licence before completing the course.
The cost of obtaining the driver’s
licence is to be the responsibility of the learner and is to be
undertaken outside the delivery hours for
the course. That is, the arrangements for obtaining the driver’s
licence are NOT part of this course.
2. This course is the copyright of Tauondi Incorporated, of South
Australia. Training providers who
wish to deliver this program must obtain permission and a copy of the
curriculum materials from
Tauondi Inc. in order to use the curriculum. Training providers must
also be registered by their State
accrediting body.
3. The proponent for this course is Tauondi Inc. The course is accredited
by the Accreditation and
Registration Council of DETAFE, SA from 1 July, 1995 to 30 June, 2000.
