the Nursery and related industries to enable the efficient and effective use of
potting media and related techniques.

Internal Assessment

-Practical exercise on measuring porosity, aeration and water-holding capacity
of a potting mix

-Practical exercise - growth trials to evaluate a potting media made up by the
student

-Practical exercise on demonstrating suitable pre-mix treatments including:

- removal of phytotoxins
- correct storage of media
- pH testing
- salinity test

-Practical exercise on evaluation of container design.

-Written tests with various types of short answer, multiple choice questions
and longer questions where appropriate.

OR

Flexible Delivery Mode

Assignments including practical exercises, diagrams, longer answer including a
report based on:

-Evaluation of a potting mix made up by the student by growing plants in it.

-Evaluation of various container designs used in the nursery industry
particularly related to the student's local area.

-Observation of suitable pre-mix treatments and related nursery techniques
particularly related to the student's local area.
