To give students the opportunity to examine, develop
and analyse their own interpersonal community skills
from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
To give a practical introduction to the welfare
interview, its structure and process through a
series of workshop exercises and role-plays.
To assist students to understand that the success
and competence of a welfare worker begins with
effective and sensitive interpersonal communication
skills.

Student Participation 20%
As this unit is designed around experiential
learning, it is important that the students
participate fully in the classroom exercises.
Students being absent from four workshops will fail
this component of the assessment.
Journals 80%
Students shall write a journal of 250 words for each
workshop and include the following:
- a brief description of the workshop exercise
- relate the exercise to the theory
- analyse their own behaviour in the exercise
- explain the application of the theory and practice to
their everyday life or work.
Students must achieve a pass in BOTH
assessment requirements.
