To teach the basic elements of the assembler
language for 8086 processor.

One two-hour written paper 70%
Internal assessment (3 items) 30%
Students must pass the written paper.
Where a pass is achieved in the written paper, the
overall mark is the sum of the two components,
weighted as shown above.
Otherwise, the overall mark is determined by 100%
weighting for the written paper.
Written Examination (70%)
The examination will consist of 7 questions,
relating to the following topics:
- Data types and hardware environment (10%)
- Assembler directives and structures (10%)
- Program and data structuring (10%)
- System interface - structure and
services (10%)
- Manual assembly and linking (10%)
- Design of a macro (25%)
- Design of an internal subroutine (25%)
Internal Assessment Requirements (30%)
- Short exercises (programs and macros) involving conversion
of data to and from the external form, bit manipulations, and the
implementation of data structures. (15%)
- Program of medium complexity requiring a significant
design effort to exercise the structured programming techniques and system
calls. (15%)
