To provide a detailed study of operating system
principles.

To analyse the interactions between the resource management layers.

One two hour written paper consisting of fifteen questions relating to the
following topics:

Hardware & interrupts (15 marks)
Disk layout/scheduling (10 marks)
Information management (15 marks)
Memory management (15 marks)
Process management (10 marks)
Device & resource management (15 marks)
Concurrent processes and IPC (20 marks)

Internal Assessment

- Exercises related to deadlocks and file/ record
locking. (15 marks)
- Exercises related to inter-process
communications. (15 marks)
