Description
To provide learners with the skills to identify, botanically describe and
maintain a selection of at least fifty plants suitable for growing in an indoor
display.
Range of Variables
Delivery to take place in a classroom/demonstration room and at indoor plant
displays, in shadehouses and glasshouses and/or in a relevant workplace and/or
on excursions to provide:

-ready access to a wide range of the core list plants growing in indoor
displays, shadehouses and glasshouses for observation and examination

-access to a wide range of the core list plants arranged in indoor displays for
evaluation

Learners will need suitable plant containers and media for the practical work.

To allow credible competency-based training and assessment the class size MUST
NOT exceed fifteen students.

This subject is to be assessed internally using competence as a measure of
student achievement.

The learner is required to demonstrate competency in each of the learning
outcomes in line with the assessment method shown.

Assessment will be based on an appropriate selection of the following methods
(noting that some of the assessment methods including the assignment report,
the talk and the excursion reports cover more than one Learning Outcome):

-oral and/or written identification of specimens
-oral and/or written tests on identification, environmental and cultural
requirements and uses
-demonstration of practical skills as required
-assignment - report on two locations, open to the public, which utilise indoor
plants for display purposes
-talk - short talk on an indoor plant of the learner's choice, giving a full
botanical description, specific requirements, features, propagation methods,
uses and limitations. Written resume of the talk to also be submitted
-excursions and submission of excursion reports
