Description
To enable learners to identify, by various means including botanical keys, a
selection of 80 Australian plants suitable for horticultural situations in the
local area.

To enable learners to state the adaptations Australian plants develop to
survive adverse seasons and to apply this learning to cultivation practices.

To enable learners to use, plant and cultivate Australian plants in a range of
situations.

This subject is to be assessed internally using competence as a measure of
student achievement.

The learner is required to demonstrate competency in each of the learning
outcomes in line with the assessment method shown.

Assessment will be based on the following methods:

-Activity Book - completion of sections either in class or as assignment work

-collection of plant specimens (20 species)

The activity book and the collection should be worth
more than half of the total assessment value.

-practical exercise using simple keys to identify plants

-practical exercise to assess cultivation skills

-written tests with various types of short answer questions

-at least two plant identification tests covering at least 60 of the plants
studied and focusing on botanical names.
