To develop an understanding of:
- terms and concepts relating to the applications in this
syllabus associated with word processing.
- operational procedures associated with word processing
including problem-solving and time- saving decision-making.
To enable the student to integrate and apply
concepts to master the word processing applications
of creating, editing, filing, searching,
manipulating, moving, copying, re-paginating,
building, enhancing, merging and printing documents
from typescript or manuscript.

OPERATING PRINCIPLES PAPER 20%
One Operating Principles Paper of 30 minutes
duration, comprising 20 questions of multiple
choice, mix and match, completion, true or false,
and completion of FIVE short-answer questions.
Questions to be based on terms and concepts relating
to the applications and procedures in this syllabus,
together including problem-solving and time-saving
decision-making questions.
PRACTICAL PAPER 70%
A practical, open book, Divisional Assessment of two
(2) hours duration on the application of word
processing procedures contained in this syllabus (no
more than 500 words total). Printing may be
completed outside the time allocation.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
The assessment to consist of THREE questions
covering a sample of any of the topics listed below
with at least one document created by the students
to be copied electronically and edited. Display
techniques may be included in any question:
- Multi-page document - no more than 250 words including
headers/footers, automatic page numbering and automatic date.
- Merge - approximately 100 word document (letter) with name
and address and salutation to be the main merge fields.
- Document Building - creation of four short paragraphs
totalling no more than 150 words, to be used to compile a maximum of two
documents.
- Tabulation - maximum four (4) columns, six (6) rows,
column headings, use different tab settings.
STANDARD COMPETENCY CHECKLIST 10%
Students to be given a copy of the Standard
Competency Checklist at the beginning of the course.
They are to be continuously assessed on the
performance of these competencies in the classroom
at the lecturer's discretion.
