Description
To provide the student with the skills to perform basic geodetic surveys and
associated calculations.

At least 50% of the available marks in the end of semester written test and in
the practical tasks is required in order to pass this subject

Mid-semester written test 10%

End of semester written test 40%

Practical tasks: 50%

- direction observations using eccentric stations and one second
theodolites
- trigonometric heighting using one second theodolites
- horizontal control traversing using EDM*
- set out simulated building construction*
- set out using “middling in” and offsets

Theodolite permanent adjustments

* Includes submission of plans

Part of the assessment for this module is that learners complete a minimum of
two days field experience with a surveyor on a relevant survey project, in the
semester or semester break immediately prior to studying this module.
