Internal Assessment 100%

The assessment must take place under officially
controlled laboratory conditions or similarly
approved conditions.

A test is to be selected at random from a bank of
shorthand speed tests.

To successfully achieve a pass in Shorthand 40 wpm,
the student must pass ONE test paper as set out
below.

Content: Simple business material (non-technical) (plus or minus 2%) of the
Australian Standard 500 most commonly used business
words. 70%

Duration: Each test to consist of ONE piece of unseen continuous
dictation of three minutes' duration of 40 wpm.

Transcription: Maximum Transcription time 18 minutes Transcription may
be hand-written or typed - a dictionary may be used. After dictation is
completed there should be one minute of silence before the student commences
transcription. This is to allow students to complete taking down dictation,
and improve personal notes, etc.

Errors: Errors penalised in shorthand speed transcription.

Wrong spelling or an uncorrected typing or keying
error.

Full stop omitted or in wrong place is counted as an error. (Following capital
letter or lower case letter is counted as compensating error).

Question mark not inserted is counted as an error.

And word wrongly inserted is counted as one error.
A compensating error will only count as one error,
i.e. word spelled or keyed incorrectly throughout
the piece. (Word such as "have" inserted instead of
"has" altering the sense of the piece, etc).
