To provide the learner with the knowledge in theory of the construction,

Range of Variables
This module is taught in a standard classroom, augmented with several ship
visits. Teaching will be by the Integrated Theory/Practical teaching method
using overhead projector, video/TV and ship models.

The assessment of this module is holistic in nature and requires assessing on
the integration of skills and knowledge. To be successful in this module, the
learner must show evidence of achievement of the module aim. This approach
enables the assessment to be carried out by different means to achieve an
holistic outcome.
The assessment scheme is generally designed to ensure that critical knowledge
and skills are assessed more than once and in a variety of ways throughout the
module’s assessment events. This provides a valid assessment of the learner’s
abilities and avoids misrepresentation of failures caused by single cases of
poor performance.
Assessment methods include:
- Short answer written questions which require sketching and
interpretation of sketches and drawings
- Written report after ship’s visit
