Description
To develop a clear understanding of computer
spreadsheet applications and to be able to
effectively use a spreadsheet.

To provide an understanding of how Financial
Modelling overlaps, extends and differs from
spreadsheet packages.

To demonstrate how spreadsheet packages relate to
and overlap with file-oriented data-processing
applications built using 4th-Generation languages.

To appreciate the general limitations of, and apply
the special techniques required in handling the more
common financial modelling tasks.

To develop awareness of the possible applications of
financial modelling languages.

To develop the skills required (both computing and
non computing) for professional model building.

Students are required to utilise the techniques
covered in this subject in analysing a personalised
case study,
OR
should develop a personalised application model using a spreadsheet and/or
financial modelling, OR develop a personalised application model for a
situation nominated

In each of the above options emphasis is directed at
a practical application of the techniques covered in
this subject.

Students are required to liaise with the class
lecturer in reaching consensus on an appropriate
case study application problem to use as the basis
for assessment.
