Description
To make students aware of the fundamental components
of spectrophotometers, and the basic types of
spectrophotometer commonly in use, in analytical
chemistry.
To develop experimental techniques that will enable students to obtain results
within the limits of precision of the instrument.
To train students to set up spectrophotometers for
use, while at the same time ensuring the safety of
the operator and equipment at all times.
To train students to perform calculations concerning
dilution (preparation of standards), concentration
of unknowns (from calibration graphs or
concentration mode), and final results (%w/w, %w/v,
mass, etc).
To develop in the students, a respect for
spectrophotometers, and their accessories, and to
develop the confidence that comes from competent use
of the instruments.
